The 30, 60, 90 Rule.

In car maintenance this can be critical.  No matter what type of vehicle you happen to drive, the manufacturer has prescribed a regular maintenance schedule to keep your car or truck running at its best.  This is often known as 30, 60, and 90 thousand mile maintenance…or perhaps you have referred to it as “regularly scheduled maintenance.”

Why you should adhere to the schedule –

1.  Your vehicle’s warranty may very well depend on it.
2.  Small problems may not become big ones.
3.  It should prolong the life of your vehicle.
4.  It maintains and enhances your car’s value.

Routine maintenance is anything but routine at Jim’s Auto Service.  They specialize in it!  By routinely maintaining your car, Jim and his staff are confident you will think of them if major, emergency repairs are ever needed.  Trust Jim’s Auto Service for ALL your vehicle repair needs in the Raleigh area.  They are located at 3711 Tarheel Drive.  Call (919) 824-4566.

How Often Should I Change the Oil in My VW?

Getting regular oil changes on your Volkswagen is a necessary part of vehicle ownership.  While heading to your favorite place for routine oil changes can sometimes be a hassle if you’re busy at home or work, putting it off can have serious and expensive consequences on your engine and overall vehicle performance.

Of course, each Volkswagen model has slightly different needs.  With that being said, Volkswagen recommends that most of their vehicles have regular oil changes every 10,000 miles or at least once every calendar year if you don’t drive that often.  If you aren’t sure when your last oil change was, it’s probably best to head to Jim’s Auto Service and get a fresh one.

Why Jim’s Auto Service?  Well, how about the mere fact that they proudly specialize in the care and maintenance of Volkswagens around the capitol city.  When people own a VW in Raleigh, they should know that Jim’s Auto Service located at 3711 Tarheel Dr. is the right place for maintaining your beauty.  Call Jim for an appointment at (919) 824-4566.

Screeeeech!

It’s a sound that no one wants to hear, especially while driving their car around Raleigh.  It’s the sound that your vehicle’s brakes may be making as they go bad.  It is the obvious final sign that you have waited too long to have your brakes checked.  There are things you can look for and notice before that, however.

Here are some signs that your car’s brakes have lived out their lives –

1.  The brake light comes on…duh!
2.  Wobbling and vibration when stopping.
3.  Fluid is leaking.
4.  Soft or spongy brake pedals.
5.  A burning smell.
6.  And, of course the aforementioned squealing and grinding noises.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda…we can all kick ourselves that we did not have our brakes checked earlier, but NOW it is definitely time to drive in (carefully, now your brakes are going bad) to Jim’s Auto Service located at 3711 Tarheel Dr. in Raleigh.  You could also call ahead for an appointment at (919) 824-4566.

An Auto Mechanic with a Degree in Biochemistry…Makes Sense.

What?  Yes, that is what Jim Liacos the owner of Jim’s Auto Service of Raleigh brings to the table among many other things!  After returning from the Army, Jim went to Iowa State to earn that prestigious degree.  From there, he became a scientist at the National Disease Center concentrating on diseases that affect herd animals.

This sounds like a work of fiction, doesn’t it?  Where did this renaissance man get his knowledge for fixing cars and trucks?  Well, when Jim was growing up dad ran a taxi cab business featuring a fleet of Checker Cabs.  Someone had to repair them when they broke down.  That task fell to our aforementioned “man for all seasons.”

Jim Liacos is an ASE Certified Master Mechanic and employs like-minded people at this shop located at 3711 Tarheel Dr. in Raleigh NC.  When you need expert auto repair from people who have worked on every imaginable type of vehicle on the road, drive in to Jim’s Auto Service or call for an appointment at (919) 824-4566.

I Can Barely See out of my Windshield.

How many times have your said that while driving around the roadways of the Raleigh area?   Wiper blades should be replaced every six months to a year or as soon as you notice a difference in driving visibility.  Have you been hearing the squeaking, chattering, skipping, smearing or streaking reducing driving visibility?

When you inspect your wiper blades look for these thing –

1.  Broken frames detached from the connection points
2.  Metal corrosion
3.  Cracks, tears, or missing pieces
4.  Check the squeegee for rounded edges
5.  Tug on it to make sure it is securely installed.

Here is the thing about wiper blade maintenance and replacement…you can do it yourself, or have your trusted mechanic do that for you as a part of routine maintenance such as an oil change, or wheel alignment.  In Raleigh, that auto mechanic should be Jim’s Auto Service.  They take care of all the vehicles around the Capital.  Call for an appointment at (919) 824-4566.

When to Tune-Up.

It’s a question that vehicle owners in North Carolina need to know.  How often does your car need a tune-up?  If you are driving an older model around Raleigh you need a tune-up every 30,000 to 45,000 miles.  In modern cars, a "tune-up" is a major service that includes an oil change, replacement of an engine air filter, spark plugs and possibly a few additional items.

Spark plugs provide an electric spark to initiate combustion in your engine, so if the spark plugs are fouled-up or worn out, your engine won't run properly.  There are two types of spark plugs…conventional and long-life. Those long-life platinum-tipped spark plugs can last for 50,000-120,000 miles.

A tune-up is just one of the myriad of automotive services provided by Jim’s Auto Repair.  Jim and his exceptional crew have been keeping Raleigh drivers on the road for decades.  For any repair job on your vehicle foreign or domestic trust Jim’s Auto Repair.  They are located at 3711 Tarheel Dr.  Call ahead at (919) 824-4566.
