May 28, 1937 Was a Big Day in World History.

It was on that day that the Volkswagen Group was formed in Berlin.  Eighty years later The Volkswagen Group was the largest automaker in worldwide sales.  It really is “The People’s Car”!  Millions of people around the earth proudly drive a VW on their favorite roads and there is no end in sight.

Today you or someone you know may be driving a Passat, a Jetta, the classic Beetle, The Golf, The Tiguan, or perhaps The Atlas.  Maybe you are one of those around Raleigh who proudly drives around in a Beetle Convertible!  Whatever you choose, Volkswagens are seen everywhere around North Carolina.

We Take Care of the People.

The People’s Car…that is what the Volkswagen is known as in English.  It has been a world-favorite for decades and a favorite of Raleigh area residents as well.  While they may have been criticized for their emissions scandal at one time, Volkswagen’s reliability has never really been thrown into question.

It’s a bit of a mixed bag so to speak, when it comes to Volkswagens.  In a survey by Warranty Direct it was found that Volkswagens were ninth in terms of unreliability, with 1 in 52 engines resulting in failure. However, they fare better than their German counterparts Audi and BMW by a considerable margin.

When it is time to have your Volkswagen serviced or maintained on its regular schedule think of Jim’s Auto Service.  For decades, they have been repairing cars of every make and model (especially VW’s) from their location at 3711 Tarheel Drive in Raleigh.  For a service appointment just call (919) 824-4566.

Do Volkswagens Cost More to Repair?

If you have ever owned one you are aware that VW's have always cost more to service. As far as oil goes just check what kind of oil they use and price it out wherever you get your oil changes done.  What about general maintenance?  In terms of repairs they tend to cost more. It largely depends on the model and which parts need to be replaced.

Electrical problems can be inherent in Volkswagens.  Diagnostics can be expensive and do not always produce results.  In general though, VW owners are happy and satisfied to be part of the family.  Know this, when Volkswagen owners are surveyed throughout the world, they give this unique ride very high marks.

The bottom line is this…when your VW needs to be repaired you can always trust Jim’s Auto Service.  They are your headquarters in the Raleigh NC area for Volkswagen service and maintenance.  Jim’s is a full-service repair garage located at 3711 Tarheel Drive in Raleigh.  Give them a call for all makes and models at (919) 824-4566.

Twenty…That’s Right Twenty!

That number can sound daunting or minor depending on how you look at it.  This is about the Volkswagen Jetta.  Yes, the Jetta.  It has twenty different types of service that are necessary over its first 150,000 miles.  Thirteen of those twenty occur within the first 100,000 miles.  Here are some of them.

At 7500 miles your Jetta needs a tire rotation, oil change, and general safety inspection.  At 15,000 miles it may be time to change the air filter and cabin filter.  When you arrive at 30,000 miles you need to be thinking about brake fluid, transmission fluid, and engine coolant.  You may also need to replace your Jetta’s spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter.

The future of your beloved Volkswagen Jetta is in good hands when you trust Raleigh’s Volkswagen repair professionals at Jim’s Auto Service.  Of course, Jim and his team repair all makes and models of vehicles, but Volkswagens are one of their specialties.  Call them at (919) 824-4566 to make an appointment at 3711 Tarheel Drive in Raleigh.

Dealer vs. Mechanic…Who Should Work on My Car?

Obviously, you didn’t buy your Volkswagen from us, but we would like to help you keep it in tip-top condition.  We are perfectly comfortable with dealer service departments because their high repair rates and by-the-book approach can drive customers straight to a local independent specialist like us!

On certain jobs a dealer may take six to eight hours to do a job we can do in a fraction of the time for a fraction of the price.  Here is a rule of thumb…once your VW hits 50,000 miles go to the independent shop over the dealer.  Not only is it probably cheaper, but you avoid the hassle of being pitched buying a new car.  Don’t you hate that?

Here at Jim’s Auto Service we pride ourselves in auto and light truck repair of all types.  We are particularly adept at repairing “The People’s Car”…good old reliable Volkswagens.  Give us a chance to repair your baby.  When your VW needs maintenance come into our shop at 3711 Tarheel Drive in Raleigh.  Give us a call ahead of time at (919) 824-4566.

Volkswagen…a World-Wide Classic.

You would be hard-pressed to find an adult who has never heard of this classic car manufacturer.  From the Bus to the Beetle, Volkswagen has been a part of our culture for well over a half-century.  Do you own one or want to?  If that is the case, then you should be aware of some mechanical challenges that you may face.

1.  The check engine light that has become a recent problem particularly in 2013 Jettas.
2.  Oil sludge…this has reared its head in 2000 model Passats.
3.  Wiring harness shorts…particularly in the 2006 Jetta.
4.  Coil failure is a particular problem of the 2004 Passat.

Volkswagens are engineered to last for many, many years if you treat them with TLC.  In our area VW’s are treated like children by the team at Jim’s Auto Services.  Jim Liacos and his staff are Raleigh’s Volkswagen repair professionals.  No matter the model or the year you can trust Jim’s Auto Services every time!  Call them for an appointment today at (919) 824-4566.

Volkswagens Everywhere.

How many VW’s do you see on the road?  There are plenty of them out there.  Americans have been “bitten by the bug” since the Volkswagen Beetle was introduced decades ago.  This great, popular German car has been at the center of mechanical controversies in recent years and it may have an impact on you.

In recent memory Volkswagen was involved in an emissions scandal that rocked the automotive world.  VW admitted to equipping more than 11 million diesel-powered cars worldwide with software designed to cheat government emissions tests.  Then there are the powertrain reliability issues in the Passat and Jetta particularly.

If you drive a Volkswagen in the Raleigh area, chances are you are sticking with your baby through thick and thin!  When your VW acts up think immediately of Jim’s Auto Service.  We are the Raleigh NC area Volkswagen repair and maintenance headquarters.  Make an appointment today at our shop located 3711 Tarheel Drive. Call (919) 824-4566.

Direct Fuel Injection in your VW.

You own the world’s most popular car.  Newer Volkswagens are not your grandfather’s bug. Just 10 years ago the “people’s car” introduced direct fuel injection in their fuel management system.  Let’s explain that in laymen’s terms.  This system injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber controlling the flow of fuel into the cylinder.

Just in case your head is spinning what that means is greater efficiency from your VW!  You will notice more power and less visits to the gas station.  Before this, the injectors were located in the intake manifold and fuel was injected into the cylinders PRIOR to the intake valve.  With direct injection carbon tends to build up on the intake valve which interferes with drivability.

What does this mean to you?  It means that as early as 20,000 miles some engine intake manifolds need to be removed and the carbon manually removed.  That is where Jim Liacos comes in.  He and his crew at Jims Auto Service 3711 Tarheel Drive performs this service along with Oil Changes and much more.  They are Raleigh’s Volkswagen repair experts.  Call them today for an appointment at (919) 824-4566.
